Team Races at Regional Championships

There will be two team races held at NASTAR Regional Championships.

  • The Family Team Race

  • The Friends Team Race

Each team race is divided by the team's ability. Based on each team's score they will be placed in either the Platinum/Gold division or the Silver/Bronze divison.

You can enter a family team of three of more or put together a team of four or more friends. The race is open to all registered racers and each team member is handicapped by their age, gender and discipline.

If mom brought you to the race, this is your chance to race with her. No qualification is required but participants must be registered NASTAR racers.

All regional championship participants are entered in the team race but racers that did not compete in the regional event can be added for $10 each.

Team Types

Family Team: Family Teams will be scored using the three highest point gainers from each Family Team. There is no maximum number of family members that can participate on a team but there must be a direct family relationship.

Friends Team: The Friends Team Race will be scored using the four highest point gainers from each team with a maximum of eight team members.

Seeding

Teams will be seeded by the time and date of registration.

Friends teams will be placed in a division based on their team's performance. Each team's medal point average earned during the race will place them in the Platinum/Gold division or the Silver/Bronze division.

Scoring

The Team Races are scored using NASTAR Team Points. This levels the playing field for all team members.

FAMLY TEAM: The top THREE point gainers from each Family Team will be used to score points for their team. The number of team points earned by these top point gainers are added together and divided by three to get the final Team Score (e.g. a perfect team score would be 10 points).

FRIENDS TEAM: The top FOUR point gainers from each Friends Team will be used to score points for their team. The number of team points earned by these top point gainers are added together and divided by four to get the final Team Score (e.g. a perfect team score would be 10 points).

Each team member scores points for their team based the handicap they earn during the race. The NASTAR Handicap Chart shows the number of points possible for each age and gender. The number of team points indicated on the chart is a range. Since team points are interpolated, the exact number of team points earned will be within this range. The exact number of team points scored for your team will be indicated on the result sheets which will be posted and available online.

Calculating Team Points is a process of interpolation. You can see details on this calculation here.

Awards

Awards will be presented in the finish area immediately following each race.

Awards will be presented to the top three teams in each team race, within each division.

Family Teams are divided into two groups: Teams that earn Platinum/Gold team medals points and teams that score Silver/Bronze team medal points.

Friends Teams are divided into two groups: Teams that earn Platinum/Gold team medals points and teams that score Silver/Bronze team medal points.
