2011 NASTAR National Championships

The Nature Valley NASTAR National Championships was another huge success. Winter Park was a fantastic host as 1,100 of the most talented recreational racers in the country battled for National Titles. Robbie Zehner won the overall Race of Champions for the fourth year in a row to secure an expense paid trip to a US Ski Team training camp this summer. NASTAR Pacesetters were represented well with Gavril Hristov of Cascade Mountain taking second place and Franz Fuchsberger of Copper Mountain getting the bronze.

Abigail Murer won the ladies race proving that a 14 year old is not too young to record the fastest raw time and earn an invite to train with the fastest women in the world. Former NASTAR Race of Champions winner, Kersten Scherer, was second and Kara Norby was third.

However, NASTAR Racing is all about the handicap and Ali Boettcher and Richard Spaete recorded the fastest discounted times to become the 2011 Nature Valley NASTAR National Champions. The Race of Champions is an exciting format that provides all of the champions with an opportunity to win the final race and Ali and Richard took full advantage of the opportunity.

The Resort Team race was a hotly contested battle but this seems to be Vail’s year as they added another victory by edging out Steamboat and Winter Park.

The Nature Valley NASTAR Family Challenge, presented by Cuties California Clementines, was won by the Clausen family from Indianhead Mountain Resort. The Clausen’s beat the Trudeau family of Canada and the Allendes De La Barra family of Chile to win the title. The top two teams were separated by less than one-hundredth of a team point.
