The NASTAR season is drawing closer to the National Championships in Steamboat Springs, CO, set for March 23-26. To qualify for the championship, skiers need to earn a top-10 national ranking or a top-five state ranking within age, gender and ability class. In addition, athletes can qualify by earning a top-five ranking at their local resort, or better yet, at any of the regional championships.

Believe it or not, the last chance to race and qualify at a Regional Championship event is this coming weekend in Welch Village, MN, during the Midwest Regional Championship. Skiers who make the podium in any of the events during the weekend automatically qualify for Nationals. There will be GS races on Saturday for individuals followed by the Race of Champions, the Family Team Race and the Friends Team Race on Sunday. If you’re curious about how team races are scored, click here for more information.

Make sure you’ve registered for the Midwest Regional Championship this weekend to take advantage of all the perks including two days of racing, a gift bag (includes a Spyder Regional Championship hat), discounted lift tickets (only $38/day), autograph sessions and pacesetting with Olympian and U.S. Ski Team veteran Marco Sullivan, entry into the raffle to win great U.S. Ski Team and sponsor merchandise and live music.

Speaking of live music, the bluegrass band “Useful Jenkins” will perform Saturday after the awards and raffle which begin at 4:00 p.m., so make sure to stick around after the races and celebrate with us!

Don’t forget that Feb. 20 is the cutoff date to qualify for the Liberty Mutual Insurance NASTAR National Championship in Steamboat this year. We hope to see you in Welch Village this weekend where we’re expecting some great skiing.
