Alpine skiers are placed in one of four Divisions for the National Championships based on their handicap on February 20: Platinum, Gold, Silver or Bronze Division.
Participants that competed in the NASTAR National Championships the prior year can request to be placed in their division based on their final handicap earned at the Nationals.
Regional Championship participants are placed in their division based on the best handicap earned during the regional race.
If you have one or two race days, your Resort Ranking handicap will determine whether you are placed in the Platinum Division, Gold Division, Silver Division or Bronze Division.
If you have three or more race days your National Average handicap will determine whether you are placed in the Platinum Division, Gold Division, Silver Division or Bronze Division. The National Average handicap is an average of your three best handicaps that are earned on three different days.
The NASTAR Handicap Chart shows the handicap needed in each age & gender category to be placed in a particular division.
National Championship divisions are set at the qualifying deadline. Some racers will change divisions after the qualifying deadline, but they compete at the National Championships in the division in which they qualified.
If you compete as a Snowboarder, Telemarker or Physically Challenged Racer, NASTAR will race within your discipline and age group regardless of your handicap - either the Snowboard Division, Telemark Division or Physically Challenged Division. There are sub-divisions within the physically challenged disciplines and racers are differentiated according to their disability. Your Racer Division is indicated on your Race Record.
