Free Public NASTAR Racing on Snowmass and Aspen Mountain all Season

ASPEN SNOWMASS, Colo. – Feb. 17, 2022 – Aspen Snowmass has announced that Snowmass will host the 21-2022 NASTAR National Championships. The Championships are scheduled for April 4-9, 2022 in Snowmass Village.

NASTAR is a youth feeder program for the U.S. Ski Team, and U.S. Ski Team athletes set the pace for NASTAR.  More than 50,000 racers will compete at 90 resorts across the country to qualify for a spot at the National Championships. Recreational racers compete within their age and ability group to earn a National Championship title and a place in the final, Race of Champions.

"The Spider Sabich Race Arena is the perfect location for the NASTAR National Championships and I am really excited to welcome the NASTAR Nation to Snowmass Village,” says Bill Madsen, NASTAR Director. “All of the race venues finish next to the Spider Sabich Picnic Palace where lunch is served and awards are presented. The venue creates a festive environment where families and friends can watch the action, cheer for participants and celebrate the sport of alpine racing.”

The format allows all racers to compete against their peers in their ability group to win Olympic styled medallions and to earn a spot in the finals. The dual, head-to-head, single elimination finals are handicapped races where the first racer to reach the finish advances in the bracket towards the finals. The top three male and female racers in the Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum Divisions will be awarded prize money.

“The NASTAR National Championships provide novice racers and skilled veterans with an opportunity to go for the Gold. It's the recreational racers Olympics,” Madsen says.

The first NASTAR National Championship was held in the Spider Sabich race arena on Snowmass in the spring of 1998 and the event has expanded to include all age groups from U6 to 95+.

Aspen Snowmass will continue to offer free NASTAR racing to the public on its courses for the remainder of the season. Public NASTAR courses are available on either Snowmass or Aspen Mountain. The Aspen Mountain NASTAR course is open daily from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. and the Snowmass NASTAR course is open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
