Crystal Mountain, Mich. (August 22, 2019) – U.S. Ski & Snowboard has announced that Crystal Mountain will host the 2020 Liberty Mutual Insurance NASTAR Midwest Regional Championships. The Championships are scheduled for February 29 - March 1, 2020, and the winners will be awarded prize money for the first time in NASTAR regional championships history.

The two-day event will see the fastest racers in each age, gender and ability group from Saturday’s qualifying races advance to the finals on Sunday. The top scoring male and female racers in the NASTAR Team Points category Saturday will also qualify for the final Race of Champions on Sunday. Team points are scored within each racers age and gender group. This format provides younger and older racers with opportunity to race with a handicap and compete for the overall win. The top 32 male and the top 32 female racers carry their handicap into the final bracketed elimination race. The dual head-to-head race will be a single elimination event with the final four racers in the men and women’s races splitting a share of the $5000* cash purse.

With the inclusion of dual-panel giant slalom racing in the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup, World Alpine Championships and Olympic Winter Games, introducing fans and athletes to this exciting head-to-head format of ski racing is a top goal for NASTAR and U.S. Ski & Snowboard.

“Crystal Mountain is very excited to welcome back the NASTAR Midwest Regional Championships for a second straight year,” said Steve Kermode, Vice President of Recreation and Retail Operations at Crystal Mountain. “Everyone had such a good time last year and we look forward to another three days of fun, friendly competition and family bragging rights. We’re particularly looking forward to the new Race of Champions dual format race which will include electronic starting gates that should allow for some exciting finishes. So mark your calendars and come join us for the Midwest’s biggest NASTAR event of the winter.”

Crystal Mountain is a first-class resort and spa that offers all the amenities for the perfect family experience. Discounted lodging and lift tickets are available to NASTAR participants and guests, and the resort has varied terrain to accommodate all skiing abilities.

“The hospitality, coupled with the accessibility of the mountain, make Crystal Mountain a perfect location for this celebration of ski racing,” said NASTAR Director Bill Madsen, “and the Crystal Mountain staff will insure a good time.”

The Liberty Mutual Insurance NASTAR Midwest Regional Championships are open to all recreational racers and no qualification is required. The event includes celebrity pacesetting, live music, parties and fun racing!

Registration will open December 1st.
