How am i supposed to know what size they are?

Measure the person that will be using them. Depending on a couple of factors the normal ski pole should be able to have a right angle in the elbow when you are flexed at the knees like you are in a ski stance. Turn them upside down and hold them under the basket (the point is in the snow, so does not count). Some "racers"want a slightly longer pole than used for normal skiing (helps in the start gate).
