If you are in your top 3 in age and gender catagory at your resort, (by the end of the season) you will get an inviation to go out to Park city for nationals.

Also on race day (at your local resort) if you get a certain handycap (different for each age group) you can get a metal.

Hope this helps. If you need more detail, or have anyother questions, just ask...No one bites here...Well cept for that JTBear guy icon_rolleyes.gif icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif

Your time gives you a handycap (which is a little harder to explain)...But it a nut shell it is how much slower than you are from the fastest guy in the US...(Daron Ralves I think is set at 0).

If you skied 20% slower than Daron...your handycap would be 20. If you skied 52% slower, it woudl be 52%.

Since Daron cannot go to every course everytime it is set, there is a pacesetter, who is given a handycap (usually around 5-12) and from that they find out the 'par time'. The 'par time' is the time Daron would ski it.

Note: you don't need to worry about any of this stuff...Just ski the course as fast as you can, and whoever is at the start or finish can tell you your handycap.

There is a chart on Nastar.com with handycaps for age groups, and what metal you can get.

Hope this helps ya out.

Basicly if you get a good handycap you will get a medal.

How old are you?

Here is a chart of handycaps for ages ( male and female)

Lets say you are 12...(and a male) and you ski a handycap of 31...First of all good job, that would put you in the Intermedetate range, and give you a silver medal. If you had a handycap of 28 or lower you would get a gold.

littlecwc, if I were you I'd just practice the first day(s) you get the chance and have no worries when you are about to race or when you are racing.
Welcome, and Good Luck!
