Why do I need two logins?

You might have noticed that our site has changed. We've added a new and improved forum, a photo section where you can share your own photos, and ski tips, travel ideas, and more to keep your racing improving. To be a part of the community you'll need to register and create an account. We encourage all NASTAR members to use their NASTAR Registration Number and password when they create their NASTAR community log in to simplify their experience.

Who Will I Race Against?

Racers will compete within their age & gender category in the division and discipline in which they qualified for the National Championships as of February 17, 2015. This information is indicated on a participant's Race Record. Click here for instructions on how to view your Race Record or the Race Records for any registered Nature Valley NASTAR participant.

There are four divisions Alpine racers may compete in at the National Championships - Platinum Division, Gold Division, Silver Division or Bronze Division. Racers will compete in the division in which they qualified for the National Championships as determined by their qualifying handicap as of February 17.

Some participants may change divisions after the qualifying deadline, however, qualifiers will compete in the division in which they qualified as of Feb. 17th.

Snowboarders, Telemarkers and Physically Challenged Racers will be placed in one of three Non-Alpine divisions according to their discipline regardless of their handicap - Snowboard Division, Telemark Division or Physically Challenged Division. Snowboarder and telemarkers will compete in their age and gender group. There are sub-divisions within the Physically Challenged Division and Racers are differentiated according to their disability.

There are a total of 46 possible age & gender categories (23 male, 23 female) in each division (i.e. Platinum Division, Gold Division, Silver Division, Bronze Division, Snowboard Division, Telemark Division, Physically Challenged Divisions). Age categories are as follows: 1-5, 6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15, 16-17, 18-20, 21-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89, 90-94, 95+. Racers will compete in the age & gender category in which they qualified for the National Championships as determined by their age as of December 31.

National Championship competitors will be bumped up to a new divisions if they break out of their qualifying division during the first day of competition.

  • New Bump Rule:
    • Gold Division racers that earn a platinum medal handicap that is within the top 50% of the platinum medal range will be moved to the Platinum Division (see chart below).
    • Silver Division racers that earn a platinum medal handicap will be moved to the Gold Division
    • Bronze Division racers that earn a gold medal handicap will be moved to the Silver Division.

    • Examples:
      • Gold Division racers that earn a platinum medal handicap that is within the top 50% of the platinum medal range during the first day of competition will be moved to the Platinum Division for the second day of competition, and will earn a final result in the Platinum Division.
      • Silver Division racers earns that earn a platinum medal handicap during the first day of competition will be moved to the gold division for the second day of competition, and will earn a final result in the Gold Division.
      • Bronze Division racers that earn a gold medal handicap during the first day of competition will be moved to the silver division for the second day of competition and will earn a final result in the Silver Division.
    • Racers that get bumped up will earn their final placing based on the single best handicap earned on Saturday. The result that bumped the racer to their new division on Friday is dropped because the gold, silver & bronze race venues are less challenging.
      • Racers that get bumped up will be placed on the start order in their new division and they must race on their assigned race venue within their new division, age and gender group.
      • Awards will be presented to all "Bumped" competitors during the competitor raffle Thursday afternoon at 4:00pm on the Base Village stage.
