Saturday: Nature Valley NASTAR Open
You will compete within your age, gender and ability group. You will be placed in a division based on the single best handicap you earn during the NASTAR Open race. Participants will compete in either the Platinum/Gold division or Silver/Bronze division (e.g. if your best handicap during the Open earns you a NASTAR silver medal, you will complete in the Silver/Bronze division).
Snowboarders, Telemarkers and Physically Challenged racers will compete in their own non-alpine division according to their discipline regardless of their handicap (Snowboard Division, Telemark Division or Physically Challenged Division). Physically Challenged racers are differentiated according to their disability.
There are a total of 46 possible age & gender categories (23 male, 23 female) in each division (i.e. Platinum/Gold Division and Silver/Bronze Division, Snowboard Division, Telemark Division, Physically Challenged Divisions). Age categories are as follows: 1-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-20, 21-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89, 90-94, and 95+. You will compete in the age & gender category based on your age as of December 31.
Competitors 20 years and younger will start at 10:00 am and competitors 21 years and older will start at 1:00 PM. A start list specific to the course you will compete on will be included in your Competitor Packet.
Competitors will be seeded by age & gender within their age category. Within each age category and division, ladies will race before gentlemen with the physically challenged, snowboard and telemark divisions running first followed by the alpine divisions.
The competitor with the single best final handicap in each age & gender category in each division will win a Nature Valley NASTAR Open Title.
The best handicap earned will determine each competitor’s final result in their division Platinum/Gold or Silver/Bronze. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be presented to the first, second and third place finishers in each age & gender category in each division during the awards ceremony. The top three in each age group and division will automatically qualify for the Nature Valley NASTAR National Championships.
Sunday: Nature Valley NASTAR Family Challenge & Team Race
The Team Race will start at 10am. The lowest handicap earned by each team member will be used to score Team Points for their team. Team Points are handicapped by age and gender to level the playing field. The three team members that score the most team points will be used to tally their team's score. Team points are added together and divided by three to establish the final team score. The fastest Family Team will earn complimentary entry to compete in the Return of The Champions Family Challenge at Winter Park, March 26th. The fastest Friends Team will win complimentary entry to the U.S. Ski Team Pro-Am at Winter Park, March 27.
