What is the NASTAR community?

Welcome to our new and improved site. Here, you can interact with other racers on the forum, post your own photos and stories, and read the latest news on racing, skiing, resorts, family activities, and gear. Log in to join the conversation.

Why do I need two logins?

You might have noticed that our site has changed. We've added a new and improved forum, a photo section where you can share your own photos, and ski tips, travel ideas, and more to keep your racing improving. To be a part of the community you'll need to register and create an account. We encourage all NASTAR members to use their NASTAR Registration Number and password when they create their NASTAR community log in to simplify their experience.

Race of Champions winner-Annie Hettinger

Annie Hettinger earned a start in the Race of Champions by winning the 21-29 year old Gold Division with a handicap of 25. She used her handicap to record the fastest discounted time of 24.67 to become the 2013 Nature Valley NASTAR National Championships Overall Winner. We asked Annie a few questions about her ski racing career and what her plans are for this winter.

Where did you grow up skiing?

Mostly Minnesota, besides the trips taken to Colorado (Aspen and Copper)

Did you race NASTAR as a kid?

Yes, once or twice, both times in Aspen.

Did you ski race in high school?

Yes, at Orono Senior High School in Minnesota.. no titles won, but it was a great time!

Did you race in college?

No.. Iowa isn't exactly known for its great skiing...

What are the highlights of your ski racing career?

Working with kids of all ages and getting them as excited as I get about such a great sport!

How many days do you ski each winter?

Between work and play... About 120

What is your favorite ski memory?

There are so many! One of my favorites is definitely the race camp I attended out in Mt. Hood.

If you could ski anywhere, where would you go?


Tell us about your experience at the Nationals this year?

I loved the venue, and all the fresh snow was awesome! it was my first time at the Race of Champions and I was just happy to be there.. Winning was an unexpected bonus!

What is your most memorable Nationals experience?

Seeing the little girl I coached (Bella) make it to the Race of Champions last year. She was so excited!

Tell us your most memorable NASTAR experience?

Working at Cataloochee (Ski Area, NC) where I get to set the courses and talk to all the racers at the top or bottom of the course. It's great to see how excited people get when they have a successful run!

What are your ski racing plans for next winter?

Well... I know I'll be racing somewhere!!
