It has been a busy summer for NASTAR's National Champion, Nick Stenicka, and that is exactly how he likes it. Nick worked two jobs, took classes at Red Rocks Community College and he squeezed in a week of on snow training at Mount Hood. Nick also spent much of his summer in the weight room developing his explosive lifting power. Explosive strength is a critical component for fast ski racing and Nick has been measuring his progress on the basketball court. His goal is to dunk a basketball and when Nick sets a goal he will not rest until he attains his goal.
Last winter Nick's goal was to win the NASTAR National Championships and in doing so earn a trip to a U.S. Ski Team training camp. Mission accomplished, Nick leaves September 21st to join the U.S. Ski Team in Chile. Nick also had a goal of earning a spot on a NCAA ski team so that he could ski race at the collegiate level and pursue his education. Nick has once again attained his goal and he is currently a freshman at St. Lawrence University. St. Lawrence has a strong tradition of producing top ranked student athletes and there is no doubt that Nick is doing everything in his power to take full advantage of the opportunity.
Keep an eye on the NASTAR Forum for updates on Nick's trip with the U.S. Ski Team.
