The radio frequency identification system (RFID) developed by NASTAR is a great way for resorts to improve their efficiency. Racers love the system too because with a NASTAR RF card in their pocket participants are automatically loaded into the timing software when they slide into the start. The RF scan is associated with each racer's NASTAR record so that results are always connected to the participant's online account.

The race staff can get racers on course quicker, spend more time answering questions and less time entering registration information into the timing software. "Racers that have a registered ID card can just hop in the box and go, they love it'" said Logan Ice, the NASTAR Coordinator on Aspen Mountain.

The first time a racer has their RFID card scanned the race staff looks up the racer's NASTAR record using thier last name or registration number. The RF scan is added to the participant's NASTAR record and the next time that racer enters the start they are automatically loaded into the timing software.

NASTAR resorts update their database each time they sync their system to the NASTAR web site and when they do this the RFID numbers are added to the database of racers. This means NASTAR RFID cards can be used at any NASTAR resort with a RF system. The following NASTAR resorts will utilize the NASTAR RFID system this winter.
