"We don't charge people to go in the terrain park or to ski moguls and we think racing should be free too" says Ski Sundown's Mountain Manager Chris Sullivan. Ski Sundown is located in New Harford, Connecticut and offers 65 acres of skiable terrain.
The NASTAR course is on the Gunbarrel trail in front of the lodge and there will be an intercom system at the start. Simply ski into the start and use the intercom to tell the timer at the bottom your NASTAR registration number. Then, GO!
The process is quick and easy for the guest and efficient for the resort. Results appear on the NASTAR web site as soon as each racer crosses the finishline so participants can use their smartphones to check their; time, handicap, medal earned and how much faster they need to race to earn the next medal while they are on the chairlift.
At the end of the day, the official results are posted and each racer is given their own web page that includes all of their results and rankings. After one race participants earn an Overall ranking at Ski Sundown plus a ranking in their age, gender and ability group. After three race days competitors earn a National ranking and they are ranked in their State of residence.
There will be free NASTAR at Ski Sundown Thursday evenings from 6:30-9:30pm and Sundays from 3-6pm. The Connecticut Industrial Ski Council (CISC) races Tuesday night at 7pm. Contact CISC if you are interested in joining them.
Grab a friend that has never raced before and introduce them to the excitement. NASTAR is more than an adrenaline rush, it's a social experience and you will never forget the people you meet.
There are 115 NASTAR resorts from coast to coast and each resort qualifies racers for the Nature Valley NASTAR National Championships at Snowmass, CO March 25-30.
