Mark your calendars and plan your qualification strategy because Aspen/Snowmass and NASTAR are bringing the Nature Valley NASTAR National Championships back to the Spider Sabich Race Arena the last weekend of March. We were told by many participants that the event held this March was the best NASTAR Nationals ever and many racers are ready to start planning for next spring. There will be parties, live music, celebrity pacesetters, great awards and gifts, team races and eleven race courses finishing in the same location with a sponsor village and a picnic palace. In addition, we are adding NASTAR slalom to the agenda so participants can expect a new challenge and a new event.

NASTAR Slalom is designed for recreational racers that want to test their skills while making shorter radius turns. Courses are set with approximately 12 meters of space between gates, no combinations and soft rubber stubby gates so no special protective equipment is needed. Some NASTAR resorts do not have a big vertical drop and their guests are often looking for a new challenge. NASTAR slalom provides those areas with a new racing option and their guests can enjoy a new test. NASTAR slalom also allows the hosting resorts to score existing slalom races as NASTAR events to provide a better race experience. High school races, Youth Ski League races, Buddy Werner races, town leagues and night league slalom races can now be scored as NASTAR races and participants earn a slalom rankings at the host resort, in their state of residence, Nationally and overall. Our goal is to provide a simplified scoring system for all alpine races so that recreational racers can be tied together with a common scoring system.

We are looking forward to the 2013-14 racing season and we hope to see you vying for a National title in Snowmass.

Schedule:

Tuesday & Wednesday March 25 & 26 - Racer Check-in and Race Clinics

Thursday, March 27 - National Championships Race Day 1

Friday, March 28 - National Championships Race Day 2

Saturday, March 29 - Race of Champions & Team Race

Sunday, March 30 - NASTAR Slalom National Championships

The schedule has be altered from previous years so that we can avoid conflicts with other events. The Nature Valley U.S. Alpine Championships will be held the weekend prior, March 20-23, and the Masters Nationals will also be held at this time. Snowmass will host the National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic March 29 - April 5 so we have tweaked the schedule slightly for the NASTAR National Championships in an effort to work with all of the interested parties.
